Overview

Lewa Conservancy is a private wildlife conservancy located in Laikipia County, Kenya. It is one of the most successful wildlife conservancies in Africa, and is home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, rhinos, lions, leopards, and cheetahs. The conservancy also supports a variety of birdlife, including the endangered wattled crane.

How to get there

Lewa Conservancy is located in Laikipia County, Kenya, approximately 230 kilometers north of Nairobi. The journey from Nairobi to Lewa Conservancy takes around 4-5 hours by road, depending on traffic conditions.

There are two main routes from Nairobi to Lewa Conservancy:

  • Nanyuki route: This route takes you through the towns of Thika and Nanyuki.
  • Meru route: This route takes you through the towns of Embu and Meru.

Both routes are well-maintained and offer scenic views of the Kenyan countryside.

By Air: There are two airlines that offer direct flights from Wilson Airport Nairobi to Lewa Airstrip is located approximately 11 kilometers (7 mi) from the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy headquarters.

Both airlines offer multiple daily flights between Nairobi and Lewa as well as connections to Samburu and Masai Mara Game Reserves. The flight time is approximately 45 minutes.

Conservation Projects

Lewa Conservancy is a non-profit organization that works to protect wildlife and support communities in Kenya. The conservancy has a number of projects underway, including:
