Livingstone is a town in southwestern Zambia, situated on the banks of the Zambezi River. It's a popular tourist destination, primarily because of its proximity to the magnificent Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
Livingstone is located in the Southern Province of Zambia, bordering Zimbabwe to the south. The town itself is relatively small, with a population of around 134,300. However, the surrounding area is home to a variety of different landscapes, including the Zambezi River, the Batoka Gorge, and the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.
The Livingstone Museum is a great place to learn about the history of the town and the surrounding area.
Collections: The museum has internationally significant collections in Zambian archaeology, history, culture, and natural history. Some of the highlights include:
- Exhibits on the life of David Livingstone, the Scottish explorer who discovered Victoria Falls
- A collection of fossils from Zambia, including the skull of "Rhodesian Man"
- Traditional artifacts from the Tonga people, the largest ethnic group in Zambia
- Displays on the history of Zambia, from the Stone Age to the present day
