Overview

Nyungwe National Park is a rainforest national park in southwestern Rwanda. It is one of the largest and most biodiverse rainforests in Africa, and is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including chimpanzees, golden monkeys, and over 300 species of birds.

Nyungwe is also an important water catchment area, and its rivers supply fresh water to over 70% of Rwanda's population. The park is also a popular tourist destination, offering visitors a variety of activities, including chimpanzee trekking, canopy walks, and nature walks.

Canopy Walk

The canopy walk in Nyungwe National Park, Rwanda, is a suspended bridge that allows visitors to walk through the rainforest canopy. The bridge is 90 meters long and 25 meters high, and offers stunning views of the surrounding forest.

The canopy walk is a great way to see the rainforest from a different perspective. Visitors can see a variety of wildlife, including birds, monkeys, and squirrels, from up close. The walk is also a great way to learn about the rainforest ecosystem and the importance of conserving it.

The canopy walk is open to visitors aged 6 and over. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The walk is also not suitable for people with disabilities or health conditions that make it difficult to walk or climb stairs.

To get to the canopy walk, visitors must first take a short hike through the rainforest. The hike is about 1 kilometer long and takes about 30 minutes to complete. Once visitors reach the canopy walk, they will be given a safety briefing and will then be able to walk across the bridge.

Here are some tips for getting the most out of your canopy walk experience:

  • Wear comfortable shoes and clothing, as the walk can be challenging at times.
  • Bring a camera to capture the stunning views from the bridge.
  • Be quiet and respectful of the wildlife.
  • Do not litter.

The canopy walk in Nyungwe National Park is a unique and unforgettable experience. It is a great way to see the rainforest from a different perspective and to learn about the importance of conserving this precious ecosystem.
