Roan Antelope
The Roan Antelope (Hippotragus equinus) is one of Africa’s most majestic and rare antelope species, and Ruma National Park in Kenya is the only protected area in the country where it can still be found.

Location: Ruma National Park is situated in Homa Bay County, southwestern Kenya, near the shores of Lake Victoria.

Unique Status: Ruma is Kenya’s last remaining sanctuary for Roan Antelopes.

Population: The population is small and critically endangered within the park. Estimates suggest fewer than 50 individuals remain.

Habitat: Roan Antelopes in Ruma thrive in the park’s savannah grasslands and woodland clearings, which provide both grazing and cover.
